In most applications NTC thermistors must be analyzed in the complete circuit where they are used. But in some cases they can be used as linearized sensors by shunting them with a resistor R. In these cases it is possible to analyze RT R = R as an independent element. The result is

Resistor R can be chosen to achieve an improved linearity only in the measurement range. An analytical method to calculate R is by forcing three equidistant points in the resulting resistance-temperature curve to coincide with a straight line.
