Figure 3.4 is variation of the measured voltage of a potentiometer as a function of wiper position, for different values for k. This means that the input resistance of the voltage measuring device must be very high when compared with that of the potentiometer Figure 3.4 shows how the measured voltage deviates from the open circuit output voltage as k is reduced.  Given the simplicity of (3.9), we will work this case as an example for error calculations when the real response differs greatly from the ideal response.
